Michael Pärt was born in Tallinn, Estonia on August 17, 1977. In the late 1970s he emigrated through Austria to Germany together with his parents. Michael is a true cosmopolitan, having been born in Estonia into a bilingual family; he grew up in Germany and studied in England, before establishing his own music production company "Michael Pärt Musik" in Iceland. Work has taken him around the globe many times over. After 30 years he has returned to live in Estonia - the homeland of his father and the country where he was born. Michael was exposed to music from a very young age. Having grown up in a musical family where everyone has always been actively involved in creating music, engaging in music studies was a natural way. In childhood Michael was playing classical piano and drum kit and went on to study music at Kingston University in England, where he specialised in film and television music. ("BA Hons in Music" & MA in "Composition for Film and TV"). This is where he acquired specific knowledge in theoretical, practical and technical aspects of music. Since around 2000, Michael has focused on score and soundtrack productions for feature films, TV and documentaries. His experience is based on both classical knowledge, with orchestral and ensemble-work at its centre, as well as contemporary and popular music. Michael has been using his creativity in music production for films - producing, engineering, editing, mixing and a little composing as well. Some of his career highlights include collaborations with film director Francis Ford Coppola, composer Howard Shore, Richard Harvey, Osvaldo Golijov, rock band Arcade Fire and Icelandic pop artist Björk. Michael's company "Michael Pärt Musik" is a music & production company that centers on creative and technical part in film score productions, as well as consultancy and logistical help for music productions with his associates from both sides of the atlantic. He is currently Managing Director of the non-profit organization "Arvo Pärt Archive" (Web Site in English or Web site in Estonian), the aim of which is to establish the archive of the composer Arvo Pärt in Estonia. The archive collects, systemaizes, digitalizes, preserves and publicises the archive materials of Arvo Pärt. Michael organizes and co-ordinates all necessary activities of establishing the archive.
